The Fear Factor Coronavirus by Janet Lynas, Ph.D., N.H.D.

I don’t get caught up in the fear factor the news media likes to generate. Being a former Infection Prevention nurse, I always look at Evidence Based Practice reports (EVP). Let’s look at the evidence on the Coronavirus.

Facts Just The Facts

The Coronavirus (CoV) is a large virus family with 7 known types.

As a zoonotic virus, CoV can be transmitted among animals and people.

Coronavirus infections are rampant in the fall or winter seasons.

For now, the only treatment options for CoV patients are supportive care and symptom relief.

The corona virus gets its name from the Latin word corona meaning crown or halo because that’s what it looks like under a microscope. I’m not going into the scientific information on the technical aspects of the virus. If you want to know more about the virus and the RNA component you can look it up. For this article, I  will give you the basic facts to help you put the fear factor aside.

So, the coronavirus is not new!

Symptoms

The most common symptoms are breathing difficulty, cough, fever, and shortness of breath. In severe cases pneumonia, kidney failure, severe acute respiratory syndrome, and worst, death may develop.

The disease is transmitted by droplets such as coughing, sneezing or a person’s sputum while talking. It is also passed along by being in close personal contact. Remember, you most likely would get it by touching a contaminated surface, like shaking hands with someone infected who has coughed into their hands and not washed them.

However, touch is not the way the disease is transmitted. It’s not going to absorb through your skin. Once it’s on your hands, you would have to touch your face with the contaminate for the virus to enter your body, by touching your mouth, eyes or nose.

The KHU1, 229E, OC43, and NL63 are more common than you think. Their effects could range from mild to moderate infections like that of the common cold.

WASH YOUR HANDS!

Flu vs Corona Virus

Remember, in an average year, flu leads to about 20,000 deaths nationwide and many more hospitalizations.

As of Feb. 28, 2020, the flu has much more of an impact on Americans than COVID-19. You can find up-to-date information on COVID-19 at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

COVID-19: Approximately 3,048 deaths reported worldwide; 2 deaths in the U.S., as of March 2, 2020.

Flu: 291,000 to 646,000 deaths worldwide; 12,000 to 61,000 deaths in the U.S. per year.

Both viruses are treatment by support of symptoms. Antibiotics do not work on viruses, only bacterial infections.

Past Fear Spreading

Remember the SARS-causing virus spreading to over 24 countries in Asia, Europe, North and South America. SARS cases have dwindled until there are no longer reported cases from all over the world since 2004. It too came out of China.

Then there was MERS-CoV syndrome coronavirus coming out of the Middle East. First discovered in 2012, this type of coronavirus infection was recorded to have infected around 2,500 people.

For MERS, there have been no documented human-to-human transmission or community outbreaks apart from close contacts. The main known source for MERS-CoV was dromedary camels.

Let’s not forget the Bird Flu! It goes on and on…

Prevention

Coronaviruses are sensitive to heat. Ultraviolet light, non-ionic detergents, liquid solvents, and oxidizing agents also affect the virions adversely.

Colds, flu, and coronaviruses can be prevented by frequent, thorough hand washing, coughing into the crook of your elbow, staying home when sick and limiting contact with people who are infected.

Conclusion

Don’t fall into the fear that the news media likes to cause. The paper surgical mask will not prevent you from getting a virus because they are not fit properly over your face. There are gaps where viruses can get through. The mask will only help by preventing you from putting you hands around your nose or mouth.

The most effective prevention for any virus is to WASH YOUR HANDS!

Diabetes, Nutrition & Natural Health by Janet Lynas, Ph.D., N.H.D.

Worldwide diabetes type 2 is on the rise. In 2019 the reports show that around 9.3 percent of the global adult population have diabetes. The projected number shows a rise to 11 percent by the year 2045. Frighting isn’t it? Or is it?

Keep in mind, I recommend organic foods. No, they are not always more expensive. Often times the price is the same or less than non-organic foods. What price do you put on your health?

Statistics on Diabetes

In April 2019 the estimated growth of the world population had reached 7.7 billion people. Quoting statistics to manipulate people is common practice. Numbers prove an agenda by scaring people with increased stats or down play a fact being discussed. Two sides to the coin so to speak.

Look at the estimated rise in diabetes, it appears we are headed for a worldwide crisis. However, by looking at the world population we are better able to put the numbers in prospective.

Why are we seeing a rise in diabetes?

I want to take a look from a different view point than just the lousy food choices we make.

Diabetes is rising because the population has increased and because the fastest growing age group is the ‘oldest old’. Having said this, we ask, ‘Who are the oldest old?’ People 80 years old and older are the oldest old.

Therefore, the number of centenarians has jumped to more than 340,000 worldwide today. The highest concentration is in the U.S. with Japan coming in nose to nose (using a racing term) according to the latest information from the Census Bureau. This number is projected to grow at more than 20 times the rate of the total population by 2050. For that reason, centurions are now the fastest growing age segment.

Living healthy as the ‘oldest old’

Since the centurion population is the fastest growing age group, how do we age healthy? At one time I did health physicals on elders applying for long term health insurance. Medical providers become blinded in our practices. Just like a horse with blinders, we are not able to see the peripheral view. For that reason, all we see are the sick and unhealthy population.

Once we take the blinders off, we see a totally different perspective. Now is the time to practice ‘preventive health’ care. I teach prevention to my clients. It’s easier to prevent a problem than it is to cure it.

Putting healthy living into practice

Because people have short attention spans, I will try keep this simple. Generally speaking, and let’s be honest, we don’t like to exercise. We don’t like to take responsibility for our own health, we want to blame the health care providers when we don’t have good outcomes. While it’s easier to make someone else responsible for our health status, our health is still our responsibility. Change your mindset, it’s not that hard. (If you’re having that much difficulty, then you need to schedule an appointment with me for hypnosis.)

Eating habits

Immediately you notice I didn’t say diet. Diet brings to mind a restricted food list and being hungry. Simultaneously, we feel deprived. Take the blinders off and think outside of the box. Take a look at my article on the food pyramid.

Increase your intake of vegetables and fruits. Yes, diabetics can eat fruit.

A. Eat blueberries, strawberries, or any other type of berry because they are packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber, also, they’re low-GI. Tart cherries are also packed with antioxidants, which help fight heart disease, cancer, and other diseases.

B. Adding peaches into your food list is important because they contain vitamins A and C, potassium, and fiber. Peaches are delicious on their own or tossed into iced tea or water for a fruity twist.

C. Eat apricots, four apricots equal one serving. They provide more than 50 percent of your daily vitamin A requirement.

D. An apple a day… Apples provide a good source of fiber and vitamin C. Don’t peel your apples, though, the skins are the most nutritious part, full of antioxidants.

E. Oranges also contain folateand potassium, which may help normalize blood pressure. Don’t forget that other citrus fruits, like grapefruit, are also great choices.

F.  Pears are an excellent source of fiber and a good source of vitamin K.

G. You may not know that the brown fuzzy kiwi peel hides a beautiful bright green fruit. Kiwi is a good source of potassium, fiber, and vitamin C.

From fruits to veggies

Don’t forget to eat your veggies! Eat the rainbow! Remember the more colors you add into your diet, the larger variety of nutrients you will get.Vegetables for diabetics include asparagus, broccoli, green cabbage, Swiss chard, bok choy, spinach, Brussels sprouts, celery, chayote, artichoke, cucumber and kale, along with collard, mustard and turnip greens. You will get a plentiful serving of vitamins A, C, E and K, along with calcium, potassium and magnesium. Green vegetables tend to be low-carb foods.

B. Deep purple color signals a food that is rich in phytonutrients, especially antioxidant-rich flavonoids. Healthy purple vegetables include eggplant, purple cabbage, turnips and rutabaga.

C. Orange, Red, Yellow vegetables include carrots, baby corn, squash, tomatoes and radishes when you want to have fun with bright orange, red and yellow vegetables. Red tomatoes contain high concentrations of lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that helps to ward prevent cancers of the prostate, lung, bladder, ovaries, colon and pancreas.

D. Some healthy white vegetables include cauliflower, bamboo shoots, jicama, water chestnuts, onions, garlic, and leeks and scallions. Having said this, pick vegetables with color over white ones because they have more vitamins and minerals. Purple onion is healthier than white onion.

Meat

The main points with meat are: eat lean meats and remember that a serving is the size of the palm of your hand.

Nuts

The top super fat nuts and seeds for diabetics include almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, flaxseeds, hemp seeds, macadamia nuts, pecans, pistachios, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and walnuts.

Himalayan Salt

I’ve been asked about Himalayan Salt for diabetics, but I want to expand it to anyone wanting to have salt in their diet.  Make sure you read my article on Himalayan salt.

One of Himalayan Crystal Salt natural benefits includes an extraordinary capacity to balance glucose levels within diabetics.

Table salt contains a stabilizer in the form of sugar, which will raise your blood sugar levels. This makes unrefined sea salt a better choice if you are diabetic, as it does not contain any unnatural ingredients which spike the sugar levels, nor does it contain aluminum.

As always consult with your personal health care provider.

Is Your Ego Aligned? by Janet Lynas, Ph.D., N.H.D.

Freud’s model of the psyche teaches us, the id is the primitive and instinctual part of the mind. It contains the sexual and aggressive drives along with hidden memories. The super-ego operates as a moral conscience. The ego is the realistic part that mediates between the desires of the id and the super-ego.

Ego as the bridge

It seems to me that the ego has a tough time bridging the id and super-ego into a balanced existence. What happens when the ego is out of balance? Are you even aware that your ego is no longer aligned? Self-talk becomes distorted when the ego is out of balance.

It’s important that we maintain the ego and make repairs promptly. How do you know when repairs are needed on the ego?

Signs that your ego is on the low side

When one has low self-esteem the self-talk can be rather brutal. Compassion is not something we extent to ourselves during times of low self-esteem. Self-talk becomes harsh and abusive.

I’m not going into a textbook explanation on low self-esteem, but I want you to be able to identify when you have dropped into this form of self abuse.

Some of the symptoms include: apologizing too much, reluctant to express disagreement with others, fearful of making mistakes, unable to recognize when you have done a good job, and the list goes on…

What is the conversation you have with yourself?

How could I be so stupid? I should have known what the outcome would be! I’m just a nobody who can’t do anything right!

Critical self-talk can result in physical symptoms of fatigue, depression, stomachache, headache, sleep disturbances, just to name a few of the problems.

When you continually beat yourself up you may find that your body will respond by feeling weighed down. You may become suicidal. Illness may show up as stomach ulcers, insomnia and migraines.

Remember, what you continually tell yourself will show up in your life. We believe our self-talk even when it’s not true.

Super sized ego

The know-it-all, we have all dealt with them in our life times. This individual can be like a steamroller. They roll right over you leaving all kinds of destruction in their path.

The super sized ego shows up as one who has to be right in every situation. This ego is over demanding, angry, has an inflated sense of self-worth. One becomes critical of other people seeing a distorted image of others as that person is being stupid. This ego thinks they are the only ones who have the answer in any given situation.

Physical symptoms of a super sized ego

Some of the ways this super sized ego can affect your health includes being irrational and angry most of the time. When one is angry most of the time, you may find that your blood pressure is high. You may need to take medication to control your blood pressure. Heart disease can become a problem and you’re at a higher risk for stroke.

The super sized ego can have sleep disturbances and experience depression just like the ego with low self-esteem.

How do we align the ego?

Pay attention to your self-talk. Once you recognize that you’re being overly critical either of yourself or others, it’s time for maintenance. How does one align their ego?

Once you have recognized that your ego is out of alignment, pay attention to your inner dialogue you’re having with yourself. Try to identify the trigger point that brought you out of alignment. Was it brought on because of over doing and not taking time for yourself? Have you not taken the time to nurture yourself?

Once you realize that you’re out of alignment with your ego, schedule time for yourself. Take a walk in nature. When we are in nature, we are able to reconnect with Mother Earth. It’s important for us to feel the frequency of the earth’s vibrational hum. All living creatures are in need to feel the earth’s vibrations to stay healthy.

Take time to quieten the mind. Turn off all the noise around you such as the TV, radio, computers… Disconnect from the distractions of social media. Meditate even if it’s only for a few minutes. Be in the moment. The past is over and the future is yet to be written. In reality, now is all that we have.

Self-talk for healing

Every thought is a prayer. It is. What your mind dwells on is what you will attract into your life. Our thoughts will magnify our reality.

Nurture yourself. Show compassion to yourself. Cut yourself some slack. Make it a point to think about the good things that happened in your day. Look in the mirror and just smile at yourself. Be honest about how hard it is to allow yourself to love you. Self love is not being conceded.

It’s important for you to say, “I don’t know how to show compassion to me. I want to love myself, but I don’t know how to start.”

Start by just smiling at yourself. That’s all one needs to do. As you smile more at you, it will become easier to see the positive side that’s been hidden away. Allow the positive thoughts to surface. It’s ok to say, “I did a good job on that project.”

Everyone has attributes that are positive. Everyday list at least ten positive things about yourself. Each day it will become easier. It’s ok to say, “I love myself.” It’s not only ok, but necessary for good mental and emotional health.

The Future in Medical Advancements in the Next Decade by Janet Lynas, Ph.D, N.H.D.

The next decade in medical advancements will be exciting as we see progress in robotic surgeries. Expansions in new procedures and genetic testing for medications to identify which drugs are more effective in the treatment of individual illnesses.

Medical Advances to Watch in the next Decade
  1. Robotic procedures will make scares a thing of the past.  Keep your eyes open for the “snakelike robots” that will punch through the skin and advance into the body to preform surgical task.  These “snakelike robots” will be controlled by a computer and a joystick.  Surgery will be less invasive and recovery time will be faster and easier.
  2. Medications specific for individual genome is already here. The scope in drugs tested will continue to grow.  Currently a provider swabs the inside of the patient’s mouth on the cheek.  The DNA sample is sent to a lab for testing to see which medications are more effective in the management in patient care.  This technology is helpful in the mental health arena in managing psychiatric illness such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.  The drug is tested on the individual’s DNA sample.  The testing shows which drugs are more effective for that person and which drugs should never be used on that patient.  Testing in this way will eliminate the guesswork that providers use in medical treatment.  The patient is given the drug most effective and safe for them. This eliminates harmful side effects and possible life-threatening drug reactions.  Imagine the time and money saved on getting the patient started on the right treatment for them from the start.
  3. Destroying cancer cells with particle light accelerator and frequency waves.  Frequency waves were proven effective on cancer cells in 1973 using 434 MHz.  The cancer cells were destroyed leaving healthy cells unharmed. Physicist Robert Wilson, the founding director of Fermilab, proposed a different cancer treatment method when he published the article “Radiological Use of Fast Protons” in 1946. In the 1990s, Fermilab built the first proton accelerator dedicated to cancer treatment at a medical center. The physical properties of high-energy protons allow for a more targeted deposition of radiation than with x-rays.
  4. Smaller diagnostic tools for practitioners to use in the doctor’s office.  Development of hand held scanners will be part of the health care providers tools used in diagnosing patient illnesses.  These hand held scanners are in the developmental stage now.  StarTrek diagnostic tools are no longer fiction.
  5. Growing organs in the lab is not fiction.  Science has been growing ears on the backs of mice for years.  Using human genes to grow organs is being advanced in laboratories around the world.  The hope is that in the near future a human heart can be grown from the individuals genes.
  6. Stem cell technology will be used more in repairing the heart after a heart attack.  It will become more of a common treatment than one to be used in the future.  Stem cell treatment is now being used in the repair of the human heart after a heart attack, but it’s most effective in patients who have had heart damage in less than two years.
  7. Overall stem cell therapy will advance rapidly in the near future.  It’s being used in cancer treatment as well as regeneration of human tissue.  Stem cell therapy will be common treatment in anti-aging modalities. Given their unique regenerative abilities, stem cells offer new potential for treating diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.
  8. Nutritional advances will take center stage as science is able to see in real time how certain foods affect an individual’s body.  Food metabolism is not the same for every person.  Each person’s metabolism is unique to that individual and by being able to monitor how foods are metabolized, we will be able to tailor our diets for optimal health.
  9. Cures for neurological diseases are on the horizon.  Stem cells offer the hope that they can be used to treat neurological conditions like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Stem cells can be designed to repair and regrow the damaged neurons in an individual’s brain.
  10. Nanotechnology is being perfected rapidly. Nanotechnology is being used for a variety age-reversing applications that could be literally a “new lease on life”.  Because the rate of cellular reconstruction slows down and the body isn’t able to keep up the maintenance, we age. “Subatomic robots” will go into our bloodstream and repair cellular damage. Nanotechnology treatments for other age-related disorders, such as macular degeneration, osteoporosis, arteriosclerosis, and cirrhosis are closer to being current treatment than we think.

The next decade in medical advancements indeed will be exciting to watch as it unfolds. In many cases, the future is here now. How we chose to maintain our health, will in effect determine the quality of life we will have.

Looking Back A Decade by Janet Lynas, Ph.D., N.H.D.

As 2019 comes to an end, I begin to think back not only over the last year, but the last decade.  Let’s take a look at some of the medical advances over the last ten years.

10 Medical Breakthroughs in the last decade
  1. Human Genome Discoveries – Starting in 2000 a rough draft of the human genes was released. By 2003 the final draft was published.  The hope of this project is in preventive medicine.  The information gathered from this project will help practitioners focus on preventive medicine.  As scientists understand the human genes better they will be able to predict possibilities on what direction to take to maintain health for their patients.
  2. Information Technology – Since changing patient charts over from pen and paper to computers, consistency in patient care is now available.  Each care provider is able to access all of the patient’s chart and is able to see what each health care provider has contributed to the care of that individual.  Patients have access to doctors through “telemedicine”.  Telemedicine allows patients to interact with physicians who are many miles away.  Physicians who specialize in specific areas of medicine are able to provide patient care via Skype on the computer screen.  Patients are now able to receive care with specialist that would otherwise not be available.
  3. Anti-Smoking laws and Campaigns Restrict Public Smoking – While this may seem on the surface, an invasion of individual freedoms, it however is indeed a big step forward in the protection of non-smokers.  Smokers are not the only ones who get lung cancer from smoking.  Second hand smoke causes lung cancer in non-smokes as well.  People who worked in bars and restaurants where smoking was allowed were subjected to second hand smoke.  As a result, these people had a higher incidence of lung cancer than non-smokers who were not exposed to tobacco smoke.  These laws have encouraged smokers to stop.
  4. Heart Disease Deaths Drop by 40 Percent – Advances in recognition of the symptoms of heart attack and having quick responses have made a major advancement in survival rates.  New treatments in heart disease have made a large turn around in prevention of heart disease.  Advanced surgical techniques have proved to make recovery faster and heart surgery safer.  Preventive care in heart disease has contributed to the drop in patient deaths from heart disease.
  5. Stem Cell Research: Laboratory Breakthroughs and Some Clinical Advances – Stem cell research has been used in many areas of patient care including to regrowth of heart tissue, cancer research and patient survival and in regenerative medicine.  The future in stem cell research is exciting.
  6. Targeted Therapies for Cancer Expand With New Drugs – Cancer treatment is now able to target cancer cells without affecting healthy cells.  DNA medications have helped to increase survival rates without the devastating side effects of cancer fighting drugs in past years.
  7. Combination Drug Therapy Extends HIV Survival – We don’t hear as much about HIV as we did in past years.  The combination of drugs has increased the life expectancy from 3 to 5 years after diagnosis to a patient diagnosed in their 20s living to the age of 69.
  8. Minimally Invasive and Robotic Techniques Revolutionize Surgery – The normal surgical scar was long and took weeks to heal.  Today surgical scars are just a few inches because of robotic surgery.  Recovery time is short compared to ten years ago.  With less invasive surgical techniques the patient experiences less pain and shorter recovery time.
  9. Study Finds Heart, Cancer Risk with Hormone Replacement Therapy – Forty-seven years ago, I learned in pharmacology class that a woman should never take hormone replacement therapy after the age of thirty-five.  The risk for heart attack and stroke was increased with HRT.  This fact has now been supported by research.  This information includes men taking HRT as well as women.  Studies show that the increase in cancer is higher when an individual is taking HRT.
  10. Advances in MRI Technology – New advances in MRI imagining gives health care providers a look into the working of the human brain.  Known as functional MRI or fMRI, science can now trace the changes in oxygen flow in the brain.  How does tracing the oxygen flow in the brain help scientists understand the brain better? By tracking changes in the oxygen levels and blood flow in the brain, science is able to track the neurons in the brain.  As the brain activity is being observed while the patient is answering questions, researchers are able to have an insight into the working brain.  These observations are helping scientists understand brain cancer, autism, dementia, and autoimmune diseases.

Sleep, sleep, where are you? by Janet Lynas, Ph.D., N.H.D.

Like many of you, I have those nights when sleep is elusive.  Most of the time if I don’t fall asleep within an hour, I get out of bed, read or do some other activity that’s quite boring.  Usually within a short time I find myself getting sleepy and I’m able to go back to bed and fall asleep.  But what happens to the body when sleep seems to have deserted you?

Causes of Insomnia
  • Stress. Our mind continues to think about work, school, health, finances and family issues making it impossible to stop the wheels in our imagination from turning at night.  Death or illness of a loved one, divorce, or a job loss also contributes to insomnia.
  • Travel or work schedule. Your circadian rhythm is an internal clock, regulating such things as your sleep and wake cycles, your metabolism and body temperature. Disrupting the body’s circadian rhythms can lead to insomnia. Some causes can include jet lag from traveling across time zones, working a late or early shift, or frequently changing shifts.  Shift work is high on the list contributing to lack of sleep.
  • Poor sleep habits. Remember the bedroom is for sleep and sex.  Keep other activities such as: using your bed for work, eating or watching TV out of the bedroom.  Using computers, TVs, video games, smartphones or other screens just before bed can interfere with your sleep cycle.  Keep them out of the bedroom if possible.
  • Eating too much late in the evening. Having a light snack before bedtime is usually not going to disturb your sleep, but eating too much may cause you to feel physically uncomfortable while lying down. Many people also experience heartburn, a backflow of acid and food from the stomach into the esophagus after eating, which may keep you awake.
Other Causes of Insomnia
  • Mental health disorders.  Insomnia often occurs with several mental health diagnoses including anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and bipolar disorders may disrupt your sleep.  Wakening up too early can be a sign of depression. Insomnia often occurs with other mental health disorders as well.
  • Medications. Many prescription drugs can interfere with sleep.  Antidepressants, medications for asthma or blood pressure, over-the-counter medications for pain, allergy and cold medications, and weight-loss products containing caffeine and other stimulants that can disrupt sleep.
  • Medical conditions. Conditions associated with insomnia include chronic pain, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, asthma, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), overactive thyroid, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Sleep-related disorders. Sleep apnea causes disruption in breathing periodically throughout the night which leads to the sleep cycle being interrupted. Restless legs syndrome causes unpleasant sensations in your legs and an almost irresistible desire to move them, which may prevent you from falling asleep.
  • Caffeine, nicotine and alcohol. Coffee, tea, cola and other caffeinated drinks are stimulants. Drinking them in the late afternoon or evening can keep you from falling asleep at night. Nicotine in tobacco products is another stimulant that can interfere with sleep. Alcohol may help you fall asleep, but it prevents deeper stages of sleep and often short circuits the sleep cycle causing you to wake in the middle of the night.
Aging and Sleep Changes
  • Changes in sleep patterns as we age. Sleep often becomes less restful as we age. We can become light sleepers causing noise or other changes in our environment to more easily wake us. With age, our internal clock often changes, causing us to get tired earlier in the evening and wake up earlier in the morning. But older people still need about the same amount of sleep as younger people do.
  • Changes in activity. We might become less physically or socially active. A lack of activity can interfere with a good night’s sleep. People who are less active, are more likely to take a daily nap, which can interfere with your sleep at night.
  • Changes in health. Chronic pain from conditions such as arthritis or back problems as well as depression or anxiety can interfere with sleep. Other body changes that interfere with sleep are increased need to urinate during the night such as prostate or bladder problems.
  • More medications. Older people often are on more prescription drugs than younger people, this can increase chances causing insomnia associated with medications.
Side effects of sleep deprivation
  • Lower performance on the job or at school
  • Slowed reaction time while driving and a higher risk of accidents
  • Mental health disorders, such as depression, an anxiety disorder or substance abuse
  • Increased risk and severity of long-term diseases or conditions, such as high blood pressure, stroke, and heart disease
What can you do to reduce insomnia?

Interestingly, raising the head of your bed about six inches can help.  Really?  Yes.  As it turns out, an English engineer, named Andrew Fletcher came up with the idea.  You see Mr. Fletcher observed in nature that plants and trees use the force of gravity to get the nutrients they need.  He realized that the human lymphatic system worked on the same theory to move fluids through the human body.  We know that laying flat on a surface will stagnate the fluids in the body.  So, if your head is inclined about six inches, the problem with stagnation is solved.

The movement of blood, lymph and cerebrospinal fluid while sleeping has the potential to heal and detox our bodies while we sleep.  So, maybe we need to consider raising the head of our beds by six inches.

Raising the head of the bed has been recommended for years for people with acid reflux.  It took an engineer thinking outside of the box to realize the other health benefits associated with elevation of the head of your bed.

So, try this simple remedy before you reach for the sleeping pills.  Actually sleeping pills have a limited use and in reality not a good long-term solution.

What Happens When Collagen Declines In Your Body by Janet Lynas, Ph.D., N.H.D.

What is collagen? Collagen is the main structural protein in the extracellular space in the various connective tissues in the body. What? What is extracellular space? Extracellular space is the space outside of the cell. I’m not going into detail on the extracellular space in this article, I don’t think you really want an anatomy lesson.  But, the composition of the extracellular space in made up of proteins, growth factors, hormones, and biochemical receptors just to name a few functions that affect the function of the cell.

As the main component of connective tissue, collagen is the most abundant protein in mammals, it makes 25% to 35% of the whole-body protein content. Collagen consists of amino acids bound together to form triple-helices of elongated fibrils. It is mostly found in fibrous tissues such as tendons, ligaments, and skin.

Collagen and the skin

Let’s face it, most of us are looking for the fountain of youth.  As we age, the level of collagen within our body declines causing the skin to wrinkle and sag.  We begin to wonder who that person is in the mirror looking back at us.  My dad says, “I’m a young man trapped in an old man’s body!”  Most of us can relate to this statement.  While the mirror shows us an older person, our mind is still reflecting the image of a youthful person.  What a cruel trick to play on us!

Did you know collagen makes up approximately 80 percent of the dry weight of your skin. While collagen provides structure to the skin, it also works in conjunction with another protein called elastin.  Elastin allows skin the flexibility it needs to stretch and return to its original state as your body moves.  Think of the stretch marks pregnant women try so hard to avoid!  Without elastin, we would be in a great deal of trouble as our body changes throughout the decades.

Collagen and the bones

Collagen also has an important function in bone. Bone is made up of a mixture of collagen and a mineral called hydroxyapatite. Collagen and hydroxyapatite work together to form the structure, flexibility and strength of your bones. Also science has shown us that approximately 30 percent of bones are made up of organic materials, in which collagen makes up to 95 percent.

So if your bones and joints are creaking and popping and hurting, you can thank the decrease of collagen in your body for these changes.

Collagen and muscles

Collagen is also important in maintaining the function of your muscles. Fibers of collagen provide your muscles with the strength and structure needed to move and serve your muscles throughout the day.  The strength of the muscle tissue reflects on how well we’re able to preform our daily task.  It also determines how well supported our skeletal system is.

Collagen fibers also make up your smooth muscles (such as those in the bladder and reproductive system) and your cardiac (heart) muscles.

You can see how important collagen is in heart health.  When we have a strong heart muscle, our heart will operate at optimal efficiency.

Collagen and vessel health

Collagen makes up the walls of the veins, arteries and capillaries in the body. This gives the vessels strength, structure and flexibility, all of which are needed to effectively transport blood throughout your entire body.  Without the flexibility in the walls of our vessels, the body would not be able to transport the nutrients, oxygen and blood throughout our system.

When you see a collagen product or any product labeled ‘natural flavors,’ run the other way! Run fast!  That’s because natural flavors are derived from chemicals found in food, but are later enhanced in a laboratory. Natural flavors are not actually natural.

The FDA hasn’t officially defined what natural flavors mean, so it can actually be used to describe a lot of different things that may not always be good for you.  It’s a marketing tactic to fool you into thinking it’s safe and healthy for you.

Also look to see if all the ingredients are listed.  Often times the ingredients can be packaged into a vague description that is not helpful or forth coming.

Make sure the dosing is accurate with each serving.  If there are fillers the dose may not be accurate.

What to look for in a collagen product

Diverse Amino Acid Profile
Pasture-Raised Hydrolyzed Collagen From Bovine
Type I and II Collagen
Magnesium

It is my experience in testing collagen products, that most are a waste of money.  They do not live up to what is claimed in the marketing advertising.

Having said this, there is one product I found that has lived up to the claims and has scientific research supporting the promises made by this company.  I’m not easily convinced on a product’s claim on the health benefits.  I have been using this particular product for a couple of months and I’m impressed with the results I am getting.  I see scars that I have had for decades disappear, then I know that this product is the real deal.

Vortex part 2 Earth Changes and the Affect it has on Mankind by Janet Lynas Ph.D., N.H.D.

Human beings are physically affected by the changes in the Earth’s vibration energy.  Mother Earth does sustain our very existence.  We are intertwined one to the other.  Our energies are connected to the extent that we literally cannot live without the energy of our nurturing Mother.  Her “milk of life” is needed for our very survival.

Science has been monitoring our planet for many centuries and there has been changes in the magnetic frequency to the planet.  The orbit of the Earth has changed and as a result, the magnetic poles are changing. Science has taught us that the orbital rotation of our planet changes over tens of thousands of years.

Changes in Atmosphere

There are numerous sources documenting the fact that Earth’s atmosphere has had many changes over the last 4.5 billion years.  In the last one hundred years, the level of carbon dioxide has risen as humans have polluted the Earth.

Before the great flood, in the story of Noah building his ark, the atmosphere on Earth was greatly contrasted compared to what it is now.

After Noah’s Flood this water canopy in the stratosphere was removed, and the water became part of the waters from the Flood of Noah, approximately 4,400 years ago. The water canopy in the stratosphere is therefore no longer present.

Why is this important?  It’s important for us to understand the changes in the earth’s atmosphere before the flood and after the flood. Because as you see, these changes affected life on earth in a way that has profoundly changed the history of the planet and how life on earth evolves and survives.

Changes on the Life Span of Humans

Before the flood there would have been a richer concentration of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the stratosphere.  The water canopy in the stratosphere would have drastically increased the pressure of gases on Gaia, causing a 50% higher concentrations of oxygen and carbon dioxide.  This evidence is supported by experiments preformed on fossilize tree sap known as Amber.

Because of the higher oxygen levels in the stratosphere, there would be higher blood oxygen levels in life on earth. The higher blood oxygen levels at that time would have contributed to extreme longevity, resistance to bacterial and viral diseases, and greater metabolic efficiency, which would consequently greatly enhance physical ability.

Before the flood the average lifespan was 912 years.  Today the average lifespan is between 71 years and 83 years of age.  This is a large contrast in life on the planet before the flood and afterwards.  We are dying as infants in comparison to our predecessors.

As our atmosphere changed, the face of the earth began to change.   With the formation of the oceans and seas, carbon dioxide dissolved to form soluble carbonate compounds and when this happened the amount in the atmosphere was decreased.  Carbon dioxide was also absorbed from the oceans and seas into photosynthetic algae and plants.

Have we lost touch with Gaia?

Mankind has lost touch with our Mother-Who-Nurishes-Us.  We no longer hear her song as she quietly hums to us.  Humans no longer feel her heartbeat because we have lost touch with her energy.  Lost is the connection of oneness you and I once had with Mother Earth.  As one has isolated themselves inside concrete buildings, lost altogether is the attachment to Mother’s healing energy.

Nature calls us to reunite with her.  It’s important that not only does one physically connect with our Living-Source of life, but we join on an energetic level, a soul level.  When stressed, have you noticed that once you venture outside into the tranquility of nature, the union with earth calms the soul, mind and body.  It’s through this intimate union that one’s body, mind and soul begins to heal.  When bare feet touch the ground you feel the joining of energies between yourself and earth.

As one reunites with the Living-Energy of Source, you discover that sleep comes easier to obtain and the body is better rested.  The earth’s impact on our body is truly amazing in that pain level is reduced, stress seems to dissipate into nothingness and longevity to one’s life may be increased.

Our Universe is constantly changing.  It is forever expanding.  The Universe is very old.  Actually we don’t know how old the universe is and have no way to document its age.  But, science has documented that it continues to change and evolve.  Earth is a living entity that changes and evolves as the universe continues to alter and expand.  Transformation is made on Gaia not only from man’s presence, but to our planet from the expansion and evolution of the universe.

As a result of mankind no longer being in harmony with Source or nature, there is a disconnect with ourselves as well.  This disconnect has given rise to a disrespect of Creator God and nature.  Humans are no longer one with Gaia and this has created an environment of pollution and the raping of her resources.  Our home is dying and we are the murderers!

Are You In The Vortex? Do You Know What A Vortex Is? Part 1 by Janet Lynas, Ph.D., N.H.D.

Are you in the vortex?  Do you even know what a vortex is?

Vortex Definition

Notice the photo above.  I took this photo on my walk this morning at Garvan Woodland Gardens.  If you look closely you will see the trunk of the tree is twisted.  This is a characteristic sign of a vortex.  There are vortexes scattered throughout the earth.  A vortex is one of the most influential unseen forces created by nature. The spinning vortex creates a pull upon the immediate environment and influences the flow of prana by altering its straight line path.

Prana? What are you talking about? Prana is the Sanskrit word for “life force”; in yoga, Oriental medicine, and martial arts, the term refers to a cosmic energy believed to come from the sun and connecting the elements of the universe. (www.definitions.net/definition/prana)

As a practicer of Natural Medicine, I know that the “breath or life force” is of vital importance to understand.  It is in the understanding of Gaia’s life force that we begin to understand just how interconnected we are to Earth.

Tell Me More About Prana!

Prana is the universal principle of energy or force. It is the sum total of all energy that is manifest in the universe, all the forces in nature and powers which are hidden in men and which lie everywhere around us. This prana remains in a subtle, motionless, unmanifested, undifferentiated state during the cosmic pralaya, dissolution.

Science once thought the Earth’s frequency or vibrational rate was constant at 7.83 hertz. NASA started measuring our planet’s frequency and discovered that the vibration has increased to 11.2 and at times 14 hertz and is speeding up.

Earth’s heartbeat vibrates at 7.83 Hz to 14 Hz.  Humankind’s rhythm is tied into the the beat of the earth.   We are so closely tied into the heartbeat of the earth that its frequency is said to be “in tune” with the human brain’s alpha and theta states.  This acceleration may be why it often feels like time has sped up and events and changes in our life are happening more rapidly.

What Happens As We Begin To Ascend In Vibrational Energy?

In my up coming book, Dimensional Shift The Fifth Dimension, I have listed 36 symptoms that one feels as your vibrational energy rises.

Do You Have A Dirty Mind? by Janet Lynas, Ph.D., N.H.D.

Is your mind dirty?  Or should I say, “Is your brain dirty?”

Little is known about natural support of the brain and how to rid the brain of damaging toxins.  Unfortunately few doctors of allopathy medicine have little or no understanding on the natural approach to brain health.

Toxins That Target The Brain

Toxins in our environment are the leading cause of neurological illnesses. We do have a built in monitoring system that has the purpose of protecting our brain.  This system is designed to eliminate these toxins from our vulnerable brain.  However, the regretful reality is that we do live in a toxic environment.  Your brain has been saturated with them on a daily basis.  With this exposure over time, the effects begin to rob us of our memories and is slowly killing us.  To top it off, there is no stopping this exposure in the near future.  Evidence on the effects of toxins robbing our brains of precious health continues to stack up.

Current Alzheimer’s Research journal published a recent study on the devastating effects on the cellular level.  Research reviewed the available data connecting environmental toxins to Alzheimer’s.  The review indicated the terrifying path these toxins take.  Toxins alter the metabolic pathways associated with the development and progression of dementias.

Studies have confirmed the root cause of the frightening disease!  If this is true, why has this not gone viral throughout the news media.  Money!  Industries who are developing the toxins we are exposed to have a high stake in keeping this information out of the media.  Not only are toxins destroying the environment and our brains, but heavy metals are also contributing to these neurological diseases.

The Heavy Metal Mayhem

You’ve seen the commercials on television about mayhem (produced by an insurance company).  Imagine the mayhem caused by mercury, aluminum and copper on the brain.  The big three heavy metals lead to neurofibrillary tangles and amyloid plaques.  Did you know that the mercury level in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients is at least three times higher than the rest of the population?

Where are we getting mercury?  Mercury is found in certain seafoods and fish, such as tuna.  These high levels of mercury are taken in when we eat seafoods and fish that are contaminated with it.  This is why pregnant women are told to avoid seafoods.

What you may not realize, is that you are being exposed to high levels of coal-burning toxins in industries burning coal.  A staggering 48 tons of mercury is pumped into our air every year.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports that we ingest 7-9 mg of aluminum daily.  Aluminum is found in antiperspirants, cooking utensils, some medications and vaccines.

Now add to that the growing concern of copper.  High levels of copper destroy essential detoxifying nutrients such as vitamin C, the B vitamins and zinc.  Birth control drugs can increase the level of copper.  You might want to rethink wearing that copper bracelet or jewelry. The copper is absorbed through the skin.

You can ask your physician to test you for heavy metals with a blood test.

What Is The Key To Beating Alzheimer’s?

Did you know that your brain has a natural way of protecting itself from the onslaught of heavy metals and other toxins?  The amino acid glutathione is referred to as the master antioxidant.  Glutathione is produced and regenerated in a process called methylation.  Methylation is responsible for immune system function, brain chemical production, organ protection and detoxification.

This is what happens when the process works according to plan.  However, if the body is overloaded with toxins and heavy metals, the system fails to protect the body and brain.

The good news is that once you eliminate the toxins and heavy metals from you body, you can start to rebuild the support system your body needs.  One piece to the puzzle is a prescription for Cerefolin NAC.  This prescription only medication is pricy and insurance will not pay for it.  Your physician may not write a prescription for the drug either.

You can combine natural ingredients by adding glutathione, vitamin B vitamins, NAC, alpha lipoid acid, zinc, and selenium.  These ingredients will help to protect your brain cells and the rest of the nerve cells throughout your body.

If you are planning on doing a detoxification of any kind, remember that you may feel worse before you feel better.  As the body is releasing these toxins, you may experience what is called a “healing crisis”.  What this means is that as your body is releasing the toxins, you may feel “flu” like until the toxins are flushed out of your body.  A healing crisis response during detox is a good sign.  This will pass in a few days.

Summary

First step is to eliminate the toxins from your home as much as possible.  Read labels.  Buy products without aluminum in them.  Don’t cook with aluminum cook wear.

Second step is to eliminate foods that may have toxins such as certain seafoods and fish.  Eat organic as much as possible.

Give your body the supplements it needs for support.

We can not eliminate all the exposure from toxins, but by eliminating as much as we can, we are on the right road to health.
